March 29, 2026

I am not enamored with birds. The reason I have taken lots of bird photos recently is that they are targets of opportunity when I go out to take pictures. I have learned a lot in the three weeks since I got my new camera rig. Again today I wandered out to Bay Area Park looking for targets. This western mocking bird was in a cooperative mood and the sun was just right.

John I love birds. We don't seem to have as many kinds as you do in America.
This Western Mocking bird looks like our Magpie.
About the same size and shape, just different colours.
From when I moved into this house over 40 years ago, lots of birds we used to get in the garden have gone.
No more Sparrows, we had 3 different types. No more Starlings, they always came in mob handed. About 20 to 30 at a time. No more Blue Tits or Great Tits. I think possibly a few others.
I put seeds and peanuts in the garden every day.
Only 2 types of birds come to eat them. 3 Wood Pigeon's and 2 Magpies. Nothing else at all.
It is quite sad.
