As I mentioned a few days ago I am upgrading my external hard drives. I tried a 4TB solid state drive last week, and it worked great, so I got another one. I use them for backups, keeping one in the safe deposit box and rotating them occasionally. The one thing I am impressed with is their speed. So much faster than the old spinning disk. They are also supposed to be more rugged. I was told in the old days not to move a spinning disk when it was in use.
So I got to thinking. Let's see, a trillion is a one followed by 12 zeros. Four terabytes are four trillion bytes which is 32 trillion bits. Those are pretty big numbers. 32 trillion millimeters would go around the world 768 times. 32 trillion seconds is 960,000 years. 32 trillion dollars is the current national debt, thank you swamp. If that amount were denominated in $100 bills and stacked on a base the size of a football field, it would be 2700 feet tall, about a half mile. These numbers are making me dizzy. I need a beer.
