The big attraction here in Fredericksburg is the Museum of the War in the Pacific. Admiral Chester Nimitz, commander of Navy forces in the Pacific, was born and raised in Fredericksburg. The museum has been expanded and improved over the years and it is excellent, as far as we are concerned. Today was the first of two days visiting for us, and we are going to spend the better part of tomorrow there as well.
The most interesting exhibit in my estimation is the Japanese midget submarine which ran aground on Oahu during the December 7 attack on Pearl Harbor. There are many other pieces of hardware on display. I chose the B-25 on exhibit mainly because I could get a decent picture using the pano setting on my iPhone. The particular aircraft on exhibit was built two years after the Doolittle raid, so it isn't a survivor of that endeavor. They painted a number on the tail which was Doolittle's airplane in the raid. We ended the day with dinner at the Auslander. Ginny had a schnitzel and I had a brat and beer. Nice ending to a busy day.
