We had our annual trip to the optometrist today. They are usually uneventful, but today was different. I had been noticing that certain combinations of the contact lenses and other glasses gave unexpected results. I started slinging a barrage of questions at the Optometrist regarding lenses, magnifying glasses and power of magnifiers. When I was tutoring AP physics, I was pretty good with the physics of lenses, the lens equation, focal point, magnification, etc. My assumption was that the optometrist would be as well. Except, nope. Hadn't looked at that stuff in many years. We finally tried out my observations with the lens gadget and found that my observations were confirmed. In the end we agreed to goosing my contact lens prescription by a whole diopter as an experiment. Hopefully, the test lenses will be in soon.
If you wish to pay an extra $45 or so, they can perform a test that doesn't require dilating the pupils. The reason they do that is to open up the iris to make it easier to look at the back of your eye. I figure that for that kind of money I can cope with blurry vision for a couple hours.
