Our exploratory trip to Santa Elena Canyon yesterday paid off. we Headed there before sunrise and knew exactly where to set up for the sunrise on the canyon wall. The river is still high, but there was a small sand bar in the right place. Because the sun has to rise over the mountains, you don't get the same colors as if it were rising over a horizon. Additionally, the sweet light doesn't last very long. All that being said, we did get some nice shots. Today's photo is one of mine.
The rest of the day we spent hiking: Dorgan-Sublett trail, Tuff Canyon, Burro Mesa Pouroff and Lost Mine Trail. On the latter we saw a bear and three cubs. That was cool. At the end of it all we had a nice dinner in Chisos Basin and watched the sunset at the Window. The sunset turned out to be a photographic dud. The sunset wasn't through the window so the colors were not so good.
I was pretty beat with all the hiking. We went back to the hotel and crashed.
