We headed out into Big Bend at 6:15 this morning. It was dark and misting. lt Looked like another poor weather day. Our objective was Boquillas Canyon on the far east side of the park. We had a bet going about how many cars we wouldmeet on the road. We met only two. We saw six jackrabbits, so the wildlife was the winner.
We had a muddy hike to Boquillas Canyon. I was expecting to be able to look into the canyon, but the trail was not available to do that probably because the river was high. The mud was very sticky and we spent some time cleaning up our boots in the puddles in the parking lot when we got back.
Next stop was Hot Springs where we did a loop trail. Turns out that the springs were under water as well. Nice hike.
In the afternoon we did an explore by car to the western side of the park. Eventually we ended up at Santa Elena Canyon where we want to photograph dawn tomorrow, if the weather cooperates. We stopped at several places along the way to check out hikes we can do tomorrow.
We headed back to our hotel with a stop at a diner to get some take out food. Back at the hotel we savored our take out dinner and some beer and wine. Life is good.
As I have mentioned many times in the past, Ginny is an excellent photographer. Todays photo is of her getting down to look a cactus straight in the eye.
