One thing that is enjoyable is cooking. For the most part my culinary adventures are limited to meat and vegetables. I rarely do any baking. When we started putting stuff into the new refrigerator we discovered we had a very large amount of flour. It seemed a good idea to figure a way to start using it up. It is time to do some baking. A couple days ago I made some Irish Soda Bread (flour, baking soda, salt, water, how easy is that?) and the result was good. One of my favorite baked goods is biscuits. I had never made them from scratch before, and today was the day. The recipe isn't too difficult. There are lots of variations out there. I chose one that looked straightforward and had a go. All the recipes warned about working the dough too much because you don't want the gluten to start doing its elastic thing. I did a little folding and then cut the biscuits. Into a 450F oven for 12 minutes and you have a feast. They were great! This is fun. My next baking adventure is going to be a yeast bread of some sort.
