We had a really great day today on the Great Barrier reef. We started out with a 45 minute ride to Green Island. While there we had a ride on a glass bottom boat and saw tons of coral and fish. Then we walked around the island for a while before boarding a boat to go to the outer reef to the pontoon, which is pictured here. This ia a big floating facility from which you can snorkel, scuba dive, ride a "submarine" and have a great buffet lunch. Ginny and I headed to the snorkeling gear first and plunged in to have a look around. The pontoon is moored in an area that is about 20 feet deep but surrounded by big coral formations which almost make it to the surface. We paddled around and had a good look at some colorful fish and corals and really enjoyed ourselves. We also found some of the giant clams which are about 3 feet across. That was pretty neat. We went on a second snorkeling adventure then decided it was tme for lunch. The food was great and what a view we had from the deck of the pontoon. Next we went for a ride on the "submarine" which was actually a boat that had a fairly deep draft so that you could go down inside it and sit next to a big window and really get a view of the coral and fish. All in all this qualified as a major hoot for us. Unfortunately, we had to head back to shore which took about two hours or so. I would have to say this day was among the best we had on the trip; although, we had a lot of really good days.
