A view of the state apartments in the ruins of Carew Castle in Wales
There have been fortifications on the site of the castle dating back to the iron age, the present castle was started with a stone keep built in 1100, the outer walls were constructed in 1270 and the state apartments shown in the photo were constructed in the late 15th century.
The castle was abandoned in 1686 and allowed to decay.
