"The Stump"

Boston, Lincolnshire

Work on the tower began in 1450 and it was completed in around 1510-1520. To avoid stability problems that had affected the rest of the church, the foundations of the tower were made very deep – deeper than the bed of the adjacent river. The tower has two stages within the church, identified by the two levels of windows and then above these sit a belfry and then a lantern. There is debate among local historians as to whether a spire was ever planned.

Very nicely composed from across the river. Nice tonal range. "V"

shows us what they did build vey well. Perhaps there could have been a little conical thingummy on top; but its probably a bit alarming being up there when the bells are going full swing already
