Olympic National Park - Hurricane Ridge – Washington

There is a reoccurring theme to my visit to Olympic National Park; getting to see the things I either missed or was unable to see the last time I was here because of weather conditions. Hurricane Ridge falls into the latter category. When I was here in 2006 I barely caught a glimpse of the ridge as it was shrouded by clouds. I’d seen pictures of this spectacular area but on that day you would never know that it was there.

This time I would have a week to try to catch the area in all its glory and after several days of rain the skies parted and the forecast was for sunny to partly cloudy skies. My first attempt yielded the “partly cloudy” view but a few days later I returned under clear blue skies to see Hurricane Ridge as it was meant to be seen, unobstructed by clouds or fog, and it was magnificent! There are some sites that just inspire or leave you with a feeling of awe; Glacier Point in Yosemite, Denali from the Park Road, any point on the edge of the Grand Canyon, the Grand Tetons, the Rocky Mountains from the Trail Ridge Road…Hurricane Ridge is another one of those! Words can’t express the site of it and pictures can’t fully reveal the beauty of it. It must be seen with one’s own eyes.
