Olympic National Park – Washington

Images of Olympic National Park - Northwestern Washington, taken in May 2017.

Olympic National Park is unique among national parks as it has it all; spellbinding coastlines, interior old growth rain forests and dramatic mountain views. Each area would be enough to be called a national park in its own right but here on the Olympic Peninsula they are all protected under one umbrella, 95% of which is wilderness area.

I was here last in the summer of 2006 as part of my trip down the Pacific Coast Highway from Seattle to San Diego. At that time I had less than two days in the park and literally “passed through” cruising by a fogged in Lake Crescent, getting a glimpse of Ruby Beach and stopping at Hurricane Ridge where all I saw were clouds where mountains should be. This time would be different and after 36 straight hours of rain and nearly drowning in my RV as water streamed in through cracks I didn’t know existed, I threw away my plans to build an ark and headed into the park when the sun finally came out! Four days of sunlight allowed me to explore all the differing landscapes of Olympic National Park; Coastline, Interior and Mountains (Hurricane Ridge), each displayed here in their own gallery…
