Iceland 2015

This gallery covers our trip to Iceland from July 18-28, 2015. The trip was sponsored by the Texas Exes Flying Longhorns. Twenty four participated in trip, and what a trip it was. Iceland is an amazing place culturally, geographically and geologically. At every turn in the road we were blown away (in some cases almost literally) by the raw beauty of the island. This gallery is split into five subgalleries - four by region and one highlighting some of the flora and fauna we observed. Many of the countryside "landscape" images were taken from the moving bus. As one would expect, the quality is variable.

Note: The Icelandic language dates back to around 1000 AD and is virtually unchanged in over 1000 years. The Icelandic alphabet does not contain a "C" or a "w", but does contain three letters the English alphabet does not, plus the language produces some sounds that are not normally heard in English. In trying to document place names semi-accurately, I have chosen to use the following convention For the three non-English letters: The first looks like a conjoined ae and is pronounced like an "i". For it I will use (ae). The second looks like a vertical stroke with a baby bump on it and it pronounced like "th" as in thing. I will use (b) in that case. The final one looks like an "o" with a top hat and is pronounced like "th" in the. I will use (o+) for that letter. There are also a number of accent and pronunciation marks over vowels that indicate the sound, but we will not worry about those as most Icelandic words are difficult to pronounce for a non-islander.
