North Iceland

Day 4 found us traveling NE toward Akureyri, Iceland's second largest city and located on Eyjafjor(o+) fjord. Along the way we hiked to the top of a small volcanic crater for some excellent views and visited a horse farm where we were treated to a nice exhibition of the capabilities of the Icelandic horse, a unique breed. Before reaching Akureyri, we also visited a sod-roofed church. On day 5, we toured the Lake Myvatn area with its lava fields, geothermal areas and amazing waterfalls. Day 6 found us taking a boat to see Puffin Island. An amazing number of birds, particularly Atlantic puffins. On day 7, we left Akureyri by plane to Reykjavik.
