Our next day trip from our base in Mammoth Lakes, CA was to take a quick drive to Convict Lake, then back North to drive over Tioga Pass in Yosemite NP to go to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. They recently added boardwalks for the short 0.3 mile Big Trees Loop Trail. This helps preserve the roots of the Giant Sequoias in this heavily used area of the grove. We took the 2.0 mile Grizzly Giant Loop Trail. While we saw a lot of large Giant Sequoias on the first part of this trail, up to the Tunnel Tree, we were disappointed that there were very few Giant Sequoias along the rest of the loop. Due to our limited time (we still had to drive back over Tioga Pass to get back to Mammoth Lakes), this was all we could do this day. Next time we come here, we intend to do the 6-7 mile (depending on which trails you use) Mariposa and Guardians Loop Trail as there are many more Giant Sequoias along that trail.
