We have previously stayed in Sitka for whales in Sep 2018. Also, in 2007 we stayed in Glacier Bay and Juneau for Mendenhall Glacier, Wrangell for Jet boat tours on the Stikine River, and Anan Creek, and in Ketchikan for a flightseeing trip to Misty Fjords National Monument.
However, until this trip, we had never sailed the famous “Alaska Inside Passage”. On Sep 12, 2026, in the late afternoon we boarded the National Geographic / Lindblad Quest for an 8-day cruise from Sitka to Juneau. We sailed past many islands and through various straights and passages, including Glacier Bay National Park. There were 3 great meals each day along with Zodiac cruises, hikes on shore and various presentations in the evenings. While the original weather forecast was for nice weather the first 3 days and rain for the rest of the trip, we actually had clear weather for the entire trip!
