Waterfire, the original living art installation by Barnaby Jones, was a major step in repopulating Providence's nighttime streets after a long period of decline, and was introduced under Providence's iconic mayor, Buddy Cianci. Buddy could often be found at a sidewalk table at Cafe Nuovo, where he had nothing but smiles and warm words for residents and tourists who interrupted his meal.
