Yuzen-en (Yuzen Garden) is part of the Chion-in (Chion Temple) complex. Chion-in is the head temple of Jodo-Shu ("Pure Land") Buddhism. The temple is built in the area where Jodo-Shu's founder Honen first started preaching and eventually died.

Despite this temple being on the tourist trail, I found Chion-in one of the better places in Kyoto to observe Buddhist monks going about their routines. Please be respectful if you visit. If you'd like to learn more about this temple check out its Wikipedia entry.
