Through the Gate of Chion-in

Higashiyama, Kyoto, Japan view map

It took until 2017 having attend these events since 2010 to actually visit the inside of Chion-in during a Hanatouro. Probably because I was less likely to come past this way in the events as there was plenty to see at nearby Maruyama Park without having to pay an entry fee.

This gate is is called "Sanmon" and it is a national treasure of Japan. It was built in 1619 and it is the largest surviving structure of it's kind in Japan (see Wikipedia entry). In 2007 when I was just visiting Kyoto I took photo of a monk at the same gate.

The initial technical edits to the RAW(.NEF) file were made in DxO Photolab, followed by artistic edits in Luminar Neo, before the finishing touches were made in The Gimp.
