Called "Tetsu wan Atomu" ("The Mighty Atom") in Japanese, in the west he is better know as "Astro Boy".

One of my favourite cartoons when I was very young. This display at Kyoto Station is part of a series of characters from the famous Japanese Manga and Anime artist Tezuka Osamu that can be found in and around the station.
