An identification forum on orange-billed terns in Argentina, 2007-2009. We are seeking comments on the identification of the birds featured to establish whether Elegant Tern (Thalasseus elegans) has occurred in Argentina and, if so, how frequently.
This gallery is divided into six sets of observations, each with their own photo gallery:
1. the first individual claimed as Elegant Tern, taken at Rincon de Cobo on 22 Feb 08;
2. what appears to be the same individual three days later at nearby Nueva Atlantis;
3. images of orange-billed terns at Punta Rasa, 50-60 km north of the above records, in Apr 07 (for which images emerged subsequent to the Feb 08 records);
4. an adult orange-billed tern feeding a juvenile at Nueva Atlantis, 10 March 08;
5. a flock of Cayenne Terns at Punta Rasa, 10 March 08, with one interesting individual;
6. an adult orange-billed tern at Costa Bonita, 200+ km south of Rincon de Cobo, on 3 Mar 09;
7. an adult orange-billed tern at Necochea, c 200 km south of Rincon de Cobo, on 23 Sep 09.
