A single image of a flock of Thalasseus terns, taken by Roberto Gueller at Punta Rasa (50-60 km north of Rincon de Cobo/Nueva Atlantis) on 10 March 2008. The photograph sent by RG seemed to JL to be overly saturated (e.g. the red of the Black Skimmers was overly vibrant). JL thus reduced the saturation on the photo, turning a flock of 'orange-billed terns' into a flock of clear Cayenne Terns (T. acuflavidus eurygnathus). One bird, however, looks interesting. It is immediately below the right-hand Skimmer. Both bill shape and colouration are intriguing, and it is a shame that there are no further images of it. Photograph is (c) Roberto Gueller.
Not much can be done with this photo, but it has that white break behind the eye which I do not see on Elegant Terns. Much more of a Sandwich/Royal trait. Alvaro Jaramillo.
