The Old Versus The New - Part II

Here's an example of a photo that looked great in the viewfinder but turned out to be not so great later.
The modern building in the foreground is Plantation Place, a new, huge office building in the City that was
completed last year. In the background is the spire of St Margaret Pattens, a church built by Sir Christopher
Wren in the 1680s. When they completed the office building, they also illuminated the steeple of St Margaret's.
It looks stunning at night (trust me), but you couldn't tell that from this photo.

Better luck tomorrow.

I like it Jim, and keep the London pics coming!

I know what you mean. In my film days I was always confident that my undeveloped film was full of brillaint images, and of course, there was usually great disappointment when I got them back.
Not so here though - I think your image translated out to be wonderful - as you can see from the comments below :o)

almost looks like the church is part of the new building.

I can well imagine the impressive site in person tho.. kind of like my clouds tonight, somethings they'll just have to trust us on :) still, not bad!

I'd love to visit London someday! Great mixture of the old and new!

You really do have an eye for the new and the old!

A bit grainy, and I like it!

I can't compare this to the original scene, so I don't know what I'm missing. I do know that this is a solid, dramatic, strong composition - extremely interesting and extraordinarily beautiful. Great contrast between the row of bluish illuminated windows and the yellowish spotlight on the tower. Great perspective. It's wonderful.

Most of my photos look better in the viewfinder!! I like this - you have a good eye for the old and new contrast.

I think it looks good Jim. But I know what you mean about pics looking better through the viewfinder or even on the camera LCD. Upload them to the pc and they can look a lot different!

I do not know how it looked in the view finder, but I think this is rather incredible. I love the lighting of that one building and the lightstream that comes from the windows of the others. I really like your theme here a lot. Very different and very creative.
