We just got back from a visit to Washington, D.C. and spend two days at the National Portrait Gallery - I feel as if I am still there. This is a stunningly beautiful image. The light, the expression. I am in awe.

Yes, this is like a Rennaisance portrait! The light and dark pattern is so subtle and much like an intaglio print masterfully done so the darks are velvety. This is also like a Murillo painting with a young girl at a window. I love the touch of a tourquiose blue on the photos left side near her hand. It almost pulls the piece into modern time. Masterful!

My first thought was that this woman was posing for a classic painting. Wonderfully done, mimicking what a painting would look like of her.

I feel as if I am looking at oil painting -- Raphael Soyer, perhaps?

Compelling and mysterious.
