This pond is not easy to get to. One first hikes up and across the Guadalupe Reservoir dam and then
hikes another 1.5 miles with a fair amount of elevation gain. Access to the margins of the pond is
very limited; naturally, with dense brush, thorns and poison oak to deal with. The hike is worth
the effort because the pond is ringed with milkweed, which, in turn, is loaded with aphids and
their predators: Lady Beetles (various spp), Cobalt Beetles and Milkweed Bugs. Milkweed also
attracts Monarch Butterflies and their predators, Preying Mantises.

In late summer odonate breeding activity at this pond becomes intense with good numbers
of Green and Blue-eyed Darners, Black Saddlebags and various skimmers and meadowhawks.
