1084. Céu nublado

17 de Fevereiro de 2008

I started off the morning at Pedro's house, where I was kindly allowed to spend the night. A quick look out the window left me under no illusions that it was going to be a day for driving with the roof down. After breakfast, I thanked Pedro and Helena for having me, and said goodbye to Lucas, and headed off with the vague intention of going back to Lisbon via the Lagoa de Óbidos (one of my favourite places). The sky was growing ever more heavy, so I didn't wait about for too long before finding the motorway to Lisbon. I phoned my friend Miguel, and we arranged to meet up outside the Biblioteca Nacional and then head off somewhere for lunch. By the time I reached Lisbon the heavens had opened and all the water on creation seemed to be falling on the Portuguese capital. Cosily ensconsed in my hired car, I waited for a very wet Miguel. We drove off through the rain to Vila Franca da Xira, where we found a restaurant and managed to reach it from the car without the aid of a wetsuit and scuba tank. Throughout lunch the rain fell. After a while, we decided we had to get back to Lisbon, for we each had things to do. We drove through the rain back to Arroios, where the rain stopped just long enough for me to find a parking space close to Silvia and Alexandre's flat. I said my cheerios to Miguel, promising to meet up with him again in June. Later in the evening, the rain began to fall again with a vengeance. Alexandre and I decided to make a trip over to one of Lisbon's newest cultural venues, the Fábrica Braço de Prata (which in English means The Silver Arm Factory). An interesting place that I would like to return to one day when I have more time. While there we bumped into some friends whom we dropped off rather than leave waiting in the rain for a taxi. Managed to park the car close to the flat without wrecking it. Still disappointed that I didn't get another chance to take the roof off, though.
