November : Barnstable Cemetery Lichen on Headstones

I have a large collection of photos take a very old cemetery in Southampton (UK) near my parents house. The graveyard is adjacent to Southampton Common. It's old and overgrown and deliberately kept that way with infrequent trimming to support wildflowers and to make a habitat for birds. consequently it's a great place to take striking and atmospheric photos.

This is the 1st time I've walked around a cemetery in the US and although the ones I've seen are very well maintained the old headstones and lichen are very interesting.

The pair of photos you see here started with the one on the right, but as I took it and adjusted the focus critically the back headstone came into focus and I took both using a large aperture to keep the other stone out of focus. I imagined that I would like one more than the other, but as I worked on both I realized they would make an interesting pair printed together.
