Louis Carl Mann 1875-1957

Humboldt City Cemetery, Humboldt Nebraska

Louis Carl Mann was the second of six children born to Robert Mitchell Mann & his wife Lucinda Connor. He was a dairyman by trade & had creameries in both Humboldt Nebraska & Manhattan Kansas. He gave my grandfather, Robert Thoams Mann his first job as the milkman in Manhattan. Louis Carl Mann married Lula Mae Dorland in Humboldt Nebraska on 05 May 1905. They had no children together & the couple are both buried in Humboldt City Cemetery, Humboldt, Richardson County Nebraska.

Lula May (Dorland) Mann was my grandfather Bruce Melvin Dorland's sister. Grandpa died when I was 5 years old, but my Grandma Dorland lived near them when I was in 5th grade or so in Humboldt in the 1950s. She took my sister and me to visit them just once that I remember, so I didn't know them well at all. Carl had a huge jug of mercury for some reason and gave me a little blob of it. That's why I remember. Their house was catty-corner from the Humboldt Christian Church. Lula's parents (Liberty and Jennie Dorland) lived across the street in a small brick house, according to my mom (divorced from my dad Warren Dorland). Liberty and Jennie were long dead when I was born in 1948. You and I are not actually related, but I thought you might be interested in the story about Carl. I haven't lived in Humboldt since the 1960s but have many relatives on both sides there.
