After gradually ascending from Kane Creek to the top of the plateau, the trail gently descends toward
Jackson Hole. It angles toward a precipice above Jackson Hole, from which one has this first view of
Jackson Butte. This view looks west-northwest. Between the photographer and the butte is Jackson Hole,
an abandoned meander of the Colorado River. The river is behind the butte (note the green vegetation),
flowing from right to left. At far left, above the river, is a portion of the property of Intrepid
Potash, the company that owns and operates the mine at Potash. The broken, eroded east "face" of
the butte is where I am headed to see how far into the landscape I can get on foot.
