Thank you all for the comments! Still encouraging and I feel it is important to reply with more information. :-)

Adam, I really appreciate your comprehensive analysis. I can subscribe to many of your points. First I must highlight that the "camera" is not my primary device to take photos! the reason using is was that my Sony DSC is in service (still) and this was the only way to partcipate in the eligible challenge. Not that I think to win any price with it (lol), but I simply love to participate and support the challenge. It is more about to make the best out of almost "nothing".

The image itself was even much worse on what you may expect. Already I have used the freeware part of neat image to reduce noise, then cropped it heavily as one part was just blurred. Then enhanceded color and finally did a lot of sharpeing. All done with IrfanView. Comparing the result with the original I am quite happy with the result. :-)))

BTW I have used other phones to make shots wich delivered far better pictures then this and I am positive that the phones will replace the low end segment of cameras sooner or later. Not that I see them as a real alternative!

So, I still enjoyed to be able to participate and was able to compensate that I am missing my DSC so much ... main thing about the challenge is good fun. Given the circumstances I still think that the picture has it's place in the gallery. Maybe just for the reason to stimulate thinking ... maybe to have the honor to show the first phone picture in the challenge only. Cheers!

Nice, but...

Normally I'm averse to critiquing based on someone's equipment - however here you have used a low quality camera phone and it's very noticable.

Not that good photos cannot be taken with 'poor' quality equipment - this is not at all what I'm saying. However here, your choice of subject is an incredibly smooth, shiny surface. For me, you cannot capture the qualities of this surface with the equipment used here!

The lighting is harsh to the left, although it does get more subtle towards the top right. Mostly it's the noise that spoils this for me.

This critique doesn't question your ability as a photographer, you've composed well and chosen a good angle. Unfortunately the quality of image produced is at odds with the quality of image 'needed' (in my opinion) and for this reason the shot fails.

May I suggest shooting a less smooth texture with this phone? You can produce fine camera phone images, but you have to choose the subjects carefully - camera phones just aren't as capable as normal cameras. Something gritty and rugged where the noise won't be as noticable would be my suggestion.

This has been a negative critique, but don't let that get you down - the reason the shot fails in this instance is NOT you. Adam Bramley

I love the colors and patterns - very sharp details for a cell phone camera!

I didn't realize cell phones could produce good images but I think you've succeeded here. Nice color and light, interesting perspective. Helen

Perfectly suitable (eat your heart out Motorola and Nokia)! Interesting shot too, we've got patterns and a hint of texture here, good stuff especially considering the equipment that was used! btw "Arno" please email me with your real name (or dpr username) when you get a chance. My email is in the STF C118 thread.

Not really sure, but you are probably the first entry with mobile phone :-) Nice patterns by the way!
