I don't like B&W at all, but in this particular case I can only say: Very well done! B&W works.

I was wondering about the use of B&W in this picture: not a usual technique to photograph plants. The DOF is not disturbing for me. Great experiment. MCsaba

Nah, I agree with the shallow DOF. I'm going try this again with the aperture stopped down some more. I forget that in macro mode things get shallow very fast. -- Bruce

Interesting choice to use b/w here, but it works nicely. Nice composition and I like the apparent lack of symmetry (size and shape) of the upper and lower fronds.

This is purely personal preference, so don't take this as a critique but I really don't care for having shallow focus in both the foreground and background, with midground sharp. However, I've seen a lot of good MTF shooters go this route, so it must be me. Maybe my eye-to-brain connection is too easily confused:)
