The fog (rain?) creates a nice mood. We Yanks call these devices "shopping carts." For as long as I can remember they have been made with deep baskets of chromium-plated steel. In recent years, the baskets have also been made of injection-molded plastic. The newest style carts have very shallow baskets of plastic that look like perforated trays with a raised edge all around (http://www.pbase.com/image/27009009 ). All designs incorporate a pivoting section that allows the nesting of carts to save space. Stray carts are a problem here too. In my city, stores can be fined for allowing their carts to leave their property.
