Bumblebee Moth on Butterfly Bush

I selected this as one of my four Best of 2004 to represent my efforts in flower photos, my images taken with my only L lens (70-200mm f/4L) and my work in postprocessing. I considered both images from which this was assembled to be excellent captures of the insect but had trouble deciding which I liked better. Merging the two solved that problem.

The Hemaris bumblebee moth is attractive coming or going but I only had one individual visiting my garden. The camera was on a tripod and the flower is the same in both shots so I just merged two images with a join somewhere in the flower.

Job well done. Before reading the explantion, I was surprised to see two moths at once and never would have known it was a merging of two photos without the explanation.
