Starchaser IV

WOODVALE RALLY

A hectic few days has meant that I haven't had a chance to upload a PaD shot for a little while. I have managed to get a few shots over the weekend, but not had chance to go through them properly yet. I will hopefully get them into my PaD over the next day or two, meanwhile I am bringing out a shot from last month, that never saw the light of day.

Although well known in the UK, Pbasers in other parts of the world may not know of the Starchaser project. To sum up, it is operated by a private UK group who intend to take the prize money for being the first private mission to put a man into space. This is one of the test rockets, Starchaser IV, it is 11m (37ft) long, was launched in november 2001 and (as you can see) successfully recovered by parachute.

I have put a couple of closer views in my 'Model Air Show' gallery, as this is where I took the shots last month. These are more dramatic shots of the rocket, as the angle is better looking upwards, but I picked this one for my PaD as I thought that the people added a sense of scale and extra interest.

Oh, if you are wondering why the people are looking up, whilst the rocket is clearly still on the ground, the Starchaser guys were helping kids build model rockets. These were then launched by compressed air, reaching a pretty good height before coming straight back down again. These people are therefore all in the landing zone !! Fortunately the rockets were only made out of card and paper, so didn't hurt too much if they landed on your head.

As always comments are very welcome and much appreciated, thanks.

A person is going to get into the capsule atop *that*? I hope they have a better parachute than the recent returning NASA satellite.

They better hurry - Rutan will be making the first official launch on the 29th of this month.
