The kids in the background are watching the action unfold before them, not me! As to the firefighters/paramedics, they're there in case something goes wrong as well as community service, so I thought them quite appropriate.
I like the action at the center but there is something disconnected about the picture as a whole -- There seem to be 3 different things going on -- the boys at the front, the audience who look at the camera, and the firemen who are minding their own business... Just a thought.

Thanks all for the suggestions/observations, guys. I cropped the image and adjusted the DOF so as to make the action the focal point. It's funny, but indeed the aftermath of this mad dash for the ball left one little boy with the wind knocked out of him and a very red and bruised eye! Nothing serious, though.

A very busy picture with many point sof interest that take away from the energetic action.
Not that I know how to PP it but I have seen such images with selctive colouring i.e all but the main subject(s) reduced to monochrome. That perhaps would add clout to the image/theme meeting.
You know, maybe my mind is just a bit too active this morning, but I see something in this image that really screams at me.
Does anyone else interpret this image as "Next Generation", i.e. the boys of today will be the heroes of tomorrow? Or perhaps the boys being a representation of the lost innocence of the firefighters?
Maybe that doesn't make sense, but the thought crossed my mind ... and perhaps that is perilous territory. (grin)

G'day Ingo. Nice capture to satisfy the theme. You even have a fire engine to take care of any aftermath in case there is too much energy being released, a wise precaution when energetic boys are at play! ;o) I'm undecided about whether there would any benefit in trimming back some of the foreground grass. Plenty of points of interest in this one. Cheers, John
