+ Street Rods on Black Velvet by Jack Grouell

Paint and Chrome are the visual essence of street rods - This image is about the paint. The colors are straight out of the camera by the way... PP was done in one layer in PSE 2

Original photo medium thumbnail:

other sizes: small medium original auto

Key to post processing this image was selecting the areas I wanted to keep – then doing a selection inverse and deleting the (inverse) selected areas. By doing my original selection with a very small Tolerance setting, highlight and shadow areas were excluded accounting for the “missing” parts of the cars. The colors on the final image were not altered by Post Processing

Cool effect. Could be the cover of a ZZ top album. Great job Jack.

I like this a lot! The visual simplicity which always makes a photo striking is achieve by the negative space...It does have indeeed a velvety feeling. Very nice and graphical

Striking photo that proves that less is more. Our eyes fill in the missing parts, and the stark contrast between the neon foreground and black background captures our attention even from the thumbnail. Very well done.

Hi Jack,
Great pic and great variation on the theme. Thanks for pushing the boundary a bit more.
Cheers, John

It really does look like they're on black velvet. Goes well with the neon-like colors of the cars. Very effective.

Splendid! The most original interpretation of the theme yet! Congrats!
