Drug addict + stolen car + gun shots = Ice Kills

Unfortunately, with so much of a background story needed, it may not have much
meaning for those not on Maui. But the short of it is that the woman the police
shot was high on Meth, stole a car and lead police on a high speed chase ending
in a small, yet busy area of a small town called Pa'ia.

The police were eventually able to box her in using their cars. When they tried
to approach her car, she tried to run on of the officers over and the police
officer fired his weapon.

Unfortunately, one round hit her her in the neck, killing her were she sat,
behind the wheel.

And so ended her drug use, crime sprees and sadly... her life. This was not
the first time she had been in trouble with the law as there were numerous drug
and criminal charges that had been filed against her over a period of several
years.

I believe that we are all responsible for our own actions. She for hers and the
officer for his. I believe that the system can only help those who want to be
helped, the rest is ultimately up to us.

Her family tried to sue the Maui Police Department in the wrongful shooting of
their daughter. But the thought that occurs to me is that had she just stopped
and not ran... accepted the responsibility of her actions... she would be alive,
and one of our police officers would not be living with the thought of having had
to take a life in the process of protecting himself...
