Thanks Phil and Zebra

I never realized the layer of that fence(gate) and its meanings until you pointed out. People use the fence(gate) to protect their home and themselves and even to celebrate good thing we still try to keep the danger outside the house. ----This is actually a family picture, we were back to home from Heifei and this is a tradition for south people to use firecracker celebrating the return and bringing good luck to the house.

Jen, Zebra linked me to this picture. He loves it's atmosphere. I looked at a while back and liked it, but in looking at it again I like it even more. The explosion now seems to me to be almost an overlay -- a layer of floating debris that smells strongly and makes much noise. I now see some kind of a screen or fence behind that -- another layer -- protecting these fellows from the damage they are doing to the neighborhood. And then the third layer -- the men themselves. They should know better, right? They are men playing like children. And they seem to sense it. I can see the fun in their faces but also a bit of embarrassment because you have caught them in the act of being immature.
I upgrading this image to four stars, Jen -- it is a multi-layered experience that appeals to our senses, a picture we can hear, smell, and see. It's a visual treat, a series of experiences that take us deeply into the image. And it is social commentary as well (You asked me what that meant, remember. Now you know.) You continue to amaze me, Jen.

Terrific - the photo is as sharp as the 'bang' of the firecracker. Very dynamic!

I am with Doug on this one -- this image affects the senses, Jen. You see it, hear it, smell it, touch it, and maybe even taste the gunpowder, too. It is very rich in abstraction, incongruity, and human values.

this is just outstanding... love the bright red and the "bang" to the shot... can feel the explosion. the smoke covering some of the background detail also serves as a backdrop for the foreground detail, excellent.

very cool. ; )
