Rural Treat, Village in Suzhou, China, 2004

In China, rural food can be a treat for people who live in large cities like I do. Last weekend we had lunch with a rural family in a small village outside of Suzhou. The hospitable hostess cooked many dishes for us. She was so proud and happy to be our hostess, and wanted to give us the best she has. When I look at this picture, it brings back the delicious smell of that food for me.

I can smell the delicious food, feel the welcoming atmosphere, and see a neat, kind, warm, and hard-working woman. Really nice picture!

^_^
I am from a small town of Wuxi, just half hour by train from Suzhou.
And my girl friend is from Suzhou.
This photo really make me homesick.

***This is a warm, humane, and sensual picture. I can smell this image. Can't you? This image is all about smell, Jen. It is so sensual. That lady is so happy, too. Full of pride and enthusiasm. You use a wideangle perspective to emphasize the cooking, and used the lady as context. The key to it all is color. This must be a color picture, or the food would look very unappetizing. (Some subjects don't translate well in black and white -- particularly food.)
Light and color combine to draw the eye into that steaming food as the focal point of this picture.
