China Dawn, Zhangjiagang, China, 2004

china

A lone rider owns this endless road as the sun rises on a cold winter morning. Nothing holds him back as he follows his dreams. This image is about a ride towards freedom for both this man and his country. Somewhere down the long road of history, China, too, will try to find its freedom.

Hello Jennifer, I came across your gallery by chance and I enjoy your pictures a lot. To me this is a very compelling landscape shot of superb quality. The morning mist and colours are effective. And I like the way those buildings in the far distance are hidden by the morning mist. Plus a great note about 'freedom' in China...
Cheers.

I spent 3 months in Zhangjiagang summer of 2004. I felt I wanted to see a picture of the town so via Google I got here. Your photo brings me back. Beautiful!

Great pic!!! I should say it's one of the most beautiful graphs about china, from the scene, and from the heart. Thanks, Jen

It was a chilly norning, I was in bed, warm and cosy, and our little Jen was already out for her photographies... I admire her for this.

Another evocation of space and time. The scale incongruity playing the small man against the vast scene is striking. The abstraction caused by the backlighting converts him into a symbol for everyone yearning to roar along such a road all alone at dawn (or is it dusk?). The bottom line, of course, rests in the human values you convey. This image is all about freedom, isn't it?

Hi C.AN, I am glad you like here.
Next time when you come to Shanghai, drive two hours to north, and you will be here...:))

Gorgeous, Jennifer! Where exactly is Zhangjiagang? East? Near Shanghai? I could settle down there for my retirement some day.
