When the city was destroyed on March 16, 1945, the staircase, the White Hall, the Imperial Hall and the Garden Hall were preserved.
The state rooms, furnished in the richest Rococo style, were restored, and the furniture and tapestries were almost completely saved.
The reconstruction took almost 40 years. Of the approximately 340 rooms of the residence, 42 are now showrooms.
