Würzburg

The thousand-year-old Würzburg is the gateway to the legendary romantic road that leads to Füssen. It is the sixth largest city in picturesque Bavaria. The beautiful Würzburg am Main is known for its architecture and delicate wines. The absolute highlight is the Residenz, one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Germany. During its long history the fortress, beautiful churches and numerous other remarkable structures were built in the city. As fate would have it, 80% of the city was destroyed within half an hour during World War II - including the churches, cathedrals and the medieval city center. It was rebuilt over the next 20 years. The residence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s.
