You always want to be cautious around cattle, they can be unpredictable and dangerous. However, dairy cows usually have more exposure to humans and many have become lovable, huggable creatures.

In general, dairy cows like being stroked or brushed by a familiar human. When a cows ears go into a backward or into hanging position it shows that they are enjoying the experience.

Similar to how a cat might lick your arm or hand, a cow may try to “groom” you with their tongue if they consider you part of their herd.

Do cows like music? Overall, the results are inconclusive, but there are definite trends. Most cows appear to feel a little on edge with heavy metal music and some are described as “confused” by rap. Country, classical, reggae and lullaby music result in most cows appearing relaxed and some even fall asleep to lullaby sounds.
