The runt in the litter, she continues to go places that her mom and siblings can't squeeze into.

To try to keep her off of our deck (and from eating the potted flowers there), the deck is now starting to look like a fortress. We added an assortment of screens to do our best to close up the spaces between the deck railing.

Lumpy is very smart. By walking the slim deck edge (only about 3" or less wide) just outside the railing, she is constantly looking for any possible place to get on to the deck. She has repeatedly pushed sone of the temporary barriers out of the way. Thus, she is continuing to squeeze through in places.

On top of that, she actually taunts me by doing this while I'm sitting just a handful of feet away. When I yell at her, she will merely give me a dirty look and then slowly lumber away. She does not fearfully race off as would be the norm for a grounghog. Sometimes Lumpy will sit down just outside the deck and watch to see if I'm going to go away and thus leave her the ability to get onto the deck without being bothered. Lumpy seems fearless & definitely has a one-of-a-kind personality. If she wasn't such a pest, one would have to admire her intelligence and determination.

To me, Lumpy still seems rather slim for this time of year. This is when groundhogs should be packing on the pounds. Being so small and slender is undoubtedly why she can still fit between our deck railing and climb trees almost as easily as a squirrel. However, her size makes me wonder if she'll be able to survive hibernation this Winter.

I like Lumpy if she would just stay off my deck and stop eating my flowers (or doing any damage of which I'm unaware.) We've lived in uneventful harmony with groundhogs (different ones) on our property for over 20 years. But now, we have a problem... BTW, Lumpy is just Chihuahua sized. That's very small groundhog.
