If you look at a map of Assisi you will see that there are several car parks along the hillside running from the north-east to the south west.
Our tour bus came to a rest at the Parcheggio Saba car park. (Saba being the operating company.) The area containing the car park is designated as the Piazza Giovanni Paolo II. it sits at the north-east of the town and is probably the closest one to the intended target of the Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi (the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi) on the Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco.
That is the main building which is visible directly in front of us, and I will expand on the information about it as we go through the gallery. It is where Saint Francis (1181-1226) was buried, but not where he preached since construction of it only began after his death. (That is, in 1228, after he was canonized by Pope Gregory IX.)
The building at the right of the frame is the Hotel Windsor Savoia on Viale Guglielmo Marconi. The hotel name is just out of shot.
