The low-pressure system that moved through yesterday has now shifted to the north and east, allowing us to see a north-westerly wind. This has helped transfer wild, smart fire smoke from Canada into the area. This has now dropped our air quality significantly.
A code orange, or unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups who suffer from respiratory issues, was issued early in the day. By afternoon air quality even further deteriorated to become unhealthy for all groups.
This was our backyard today.
Although the wildfires are in Western Canada (over 2,000 miles away), the smoke was notably thick here today.
This scene also was not the first occurrence this Summer. We've had several days like this.
I can't imagine just how horrible things must be where the fires are actually burning.

The big picture: Canadian officials warn there's no immediate let-up in sight from the country's worst-ever wildfire season left an estimated 41 million acres of land razed and repeatedly choked North American cities with unhealthy smoke since the summer, sending carbon emissions to record levels and posing a grave threat to people's health.
Multiple studies show climate change is a key driver behind increased wildfire risk, and a World Weather Attribution study last month found global warming had more than doubled the likelihood of extreme fire weather conditions in Canada.

Tomorrow air conditions here are supposed to be the same as today. Unhealthy!!!! However, the most recent heat wave will be over with temperatures back down in the normal range.
