Today was a landmark in our travels. We visited Great Sand Dunes National Park, our 60th National Park and the last in the lower 48. Two more in Alaska (Lake Clark and Katmai which we will visit in July) and American Samoa which is on the list for next year. We celebrated with a dinner out. Mine was a bacon cheese burger, fries and a beer. Pretty high on the hog.
As far as the park is concerned, it was not much to write home about. The place was mobbed. The visitor center displays were shut down because of covid. The only real thing to do is hike to the dunes, which are impressive. Unless you are a national park collector, I wouldn't recommend Great Sand Dunes. We also experienced some challenging weather. It was very windy with gusts over 40 mph.
We are now on the "return" home for a week. Heading to Taos and Santa Fe tomorrow and then Palo Duro canyon later in the week. Today the photo, of course, is a pose with the sign.
