power

Sumas Prairie

some might decry running bulk transmission towers through farmland, but bringing electricity across mountainous terrain is not easy, and we all want our refrigerators and electric guitars to have power

most of BC's electricity is generated further east by dams in the Columbia River and Peace River valleys, yet most, 70-80%, is consumed to the west in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island

Call me a radical but I'm not averse to power lines and pylons marching across the landscape - they often lend a man v. nature element to the composition, as they do here in this contrast between the necessities of life and the lovely landscape of the Sumas prairie

et oui, malheureusement ces horribles pylônes sont indispensables ! v

They do spoil the view but are a necessity. V

Not something I would want in my backyard but a necessity. A wonderful comparison of man vs nature with the incredible mountains in the distance. Nicely composed and documented. V+

So ugly in the landscape but..what we would not do to hear the incomparable sound of an electric guitar !!! :) V.

It's a pity there isn't a more attractive way of transporting the power !!!

A beautiful scene with the necessities of life.

Nicely composed. I don't think the power lines ruin the view, and agree about necessity. My concern is that sometimes the big lines are too close to settlements and can be detrimental to health. V

A well captured image David shoving the necessary mix of natural beauty and needed commercial structures.

Very important to have power for the guitars! The power lines take away from the pretty mountains but we all do like our electricity.
Helen Betts13-Mar-2021 23:20
They do look out of place in the farmland, but they definitely are a necessity. At least they don't obscure those beautiful mountains entirely!
Nick Paoni13-Mar-2021 22:32
Sure breaks up the rural atmosphere, but provides quite a contrast for the sharp-eyed shooter to capture.
Mairéad13-Mar-2021 21:36
The masts have an interesting sculptural quality and it's good that so much of the electricity is created without fossil fuels.
Julie Oldfield13-Mar-2021 20:43
Yes we do.....a necessary evil. They don’t mar the majestic beauty. V
Walter Otto Koenig13-Mar-2021 20:21
The masts are well placed in your composition. Like the view of the mountains.

The harsh reality is well displayed in
this beautiful rural scene.

These masts look quite artistic in fact.
