My two hangar mates, Bloke and Rodney, are about the two most enthusiastic aviators I know. They spend tons of time working on their airplanes turning them into quite amazing machines. They are both retired Air Force pilots. One of their favorite things is attending airshows and putting on aerial displays. They have done numerous modifications to their airplane. They both have very effective smoke systems. Their latest adventure is making fittings to attach smoke canisters to the wing tips. They are very clever because they can attach a scale model rocket to the fittings for static displays.

So today was the first test of the wingtip smoke system. They use a squib to ignite the canisters of smoke. The question was how fast would it light and how much fire did you get. So I readied my camera and Rodney counted down. The ignition was almost instantaneous and there was lots of flame. You can see lots of sparks in the photo as well as the last of the squib burning. A very successful test for sure. I just love stuff that blows up.

That reminds me of a childhood thrill: placing
a roll of pistol caps on a brick and hitting it
with a hammer. It was LOUD.
