Buprestid beetle (Poecilonata cyanipes)

Manion Long Swamp

This was one of two species of Buprestid beetle that was paralyzed by a Cerceris fumipennis wasp and dropped at the entrance hole to their burrow. Later, the beetles were dragged into the hole where they will provide food for the wasp larvae. Thanks to iNaturalist for the ID.

Terrific find and photo. I hope those Cerceris fumipennis get plenty of Emerald Ash Borers too.

A very jewel like colouring on this beetle so it’s a pretty snack.
